Unlocking the Full Value of Island: Introducing XenTegra’s Managed 360 Island Program

During a recent XenTegra webinar, Director of Modern Workspace Bill Sutton and Senior Director of Service Delivery Trevor Mansell were joined by Island Partner Manager Craig Tony to introduce Managed 360 Island, a managed services program designed to help organizations get more value out of the Island platform over the long term, not just at the point of deployment.

Rethinking What a Browser Can Do One of the biggest misconceptions Island runs into is the assumption that adopting an enterprise browser means retraining employees on a whole new tool.   • A personalized user experience, where the browser can be rebranded with company backdrops, announcements, and training reminders so it becomes an employee’s own workspace rather than a vendor’s product
  • AI governance, using a crawl-walk-run model: first gaining visibility into which AI and LLM tools employees are using (authorized or not), then applying data policies and “last mile controls” to those tools, and finally automating redundant processes around them
  • VDI footprint reduction, with organizations typically seeing a 75-80% reduction by shifting workloads that only needed a secure browser out of virtual desktops entirely

Island also includes a built-in password manager, giving IT a centralized, managed alternative to the LastPass or Bitwarden installs employees often add on their own without any oversight.

XenTegra Uses What It Sells XenTegra didn’t start with Island as a product; the company adopted it internally first. Initially, Island was a way to provide secure, unmanaged access for contractors and BYOD users without paying for a full VDI-style solution. Customer Spotlight: An 80% VDI Reduction During the webinar, Bill Sutton walked through a recent engagement with a large construction company that illustrates what this expansion can look like in practice. The customer had a fragmented Chrome environment with no centralized control, was migrating many of its Windows-based applications to SaaS and browser-based tools, and was struggling to run its ERP system through Chrome effectively. It was also carrying a large, expensive VDI environment and dealing with shadow IT password managers installed outside any central governance. The solution was 4,500 licenses of Island Private Access, along with Island’s built-in password manager to replace the ungoverned tools employees had installed on their own. The results included:

  • An 80% reduction in VDI footprint, from roughly 3,000 seats down to about 600
  • Centralized, uniformly managed password management with no third-party tool required
  • Consistent policy updates applied across the entire environment
  • Significantly improved visibility into user browser activity

As Trevor Mansell noted, very few organizations run 100% VDI or 100% physical endpoints. Island doesn’t have to replace VDI everywhere; it adds a consistent layer of security and management across whatever mix of VDI and endpoints an organization already has.

Why “Managed” Matters Island itself isn’t a complex product to deploy. So why would an organization need a managed service around it? According to Trevor Mansell, the real value isn’t in the initial rollout, it’s in making sure organizations don’t get stuck using Island for only their first use case and then move on. Managed 360 Island pairs customers with a dedicated subject matter expert who spends time every month helping identify and expand additional use cases, rather than letting the platform stall out after its first deployment. The program is built around three phases:

  • Deployment and implementation, typically a matter of days for smaller use cases and a few weeks for larger ones, with an emphasis on getting the configuration right the first time
  • Ongoing operations and support, scaled to whatever level of day-to-day assistance a customer’s IT team wants
  • Continuous evolution, since environments are always changing, with XenTegra helping make adjustments and recommendations as needs shift over time

Three Tiers of Support Managed 360 Island is offered in three bundles, each building on the last:

  • Pro includes business hours support and a monthly use case review
  • Pro Plus adds 24/7 support, an expanded scope of support hours, and a named Technical Account Manager (TAM)
  • Ultimate includes everything in Pro Plus, plus a dedicated assigned engineer and architect

As Bill Sutton put it, this isn’t a “set it and forget it” solution. The monthly use case reviews, ongoing tuning, and dedicated technical resources are what allow customers to keep expanding Island’s value over time, addressing issues quickly and growing use cases to match the full needs of the business from both a security and end-user performance standpoint.

What Organizations Should Expect Across all three tiers, the goals of the partnership stay consistent: faster time to value, expanding use cases beyond the original deployment (in XenTegra’s own case, going from just contractors and BYOD to company-wide adoption), and reducing risk by addressing vulnerabilities at the browser level.
