WHAT IS IT? Citrix Universal Subscription is a new flexible licensing solution that offers unparalleled flexibility in managing and deploying on-premises and cloud-hosted desktops. With Citrix Universal Subscription, customers can lift and shift their IT-managed Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops deployments to public clouds, gradually expand to the cloud while delivering legacy apps from the datacenter, or utilize StoreFront and Citrix Workspace to connect and provide resources to users from all sites simultaneously. 

Citrix Universal Subscription offers two different modes: 

• On-premises only: this mode is suitable for customers who only require on-premises capabilities for their IT-managed Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops deployments.

• Hybrid: this mode is ideal for customers who want to gradually move to Citrix Cloud services while maintaining their on-premises deployments. 

Customers can choose the mode that best suits their business needs and switch between modes at any time. Citrix Universal Subscription provides the same benefits as traditional subscription licenses, including access to product updates, maintenance, and support. 

Citrix Universal Subscription also includes several entitlements, such as: 

• Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops: allows customers to deliver Windows, Linux, web, and SaaS apps and desktops from any cloud or datacenter.

• Citrix Workspace: provides a secure and personalized digital workspace for employees to access their apps, desktops, and content on any device.

• Citrix Endpoint Management: offers unified endpoint management to secure and manage devices and apps across all major operating systems. 

• Citrix Analytics: enables customers to proactively identify and address security threats and user behavior anomalies.

• Citrix Private Access (SPA): delivers zero trust network access (ZTNA) to all IT-sanctioned apps provides a cloud-delivered security service that protects users’ internet access and blocks malicious content. 

Citrix Universal Subscription is designed to give customers the flexibility they need to manage and deploy their IT-managed Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops deployments. With the Citrix Universal Subscription, customers can leverage the benefits of both on-premises and cloud-hosted desktops to enable their hybrid deployments. 

WHAT IS IT? Citrix has brought back its application delivery and security solution, NetScaler, to simplify the licensing and pricing options. With the reintroduction of NetScaler, the company is offering subscription-only options that include both hardware and software application delivery controllers (ADCs). This provides more flexibility for businesses to deploy ADCs as needed across on-premises and cloud environments.

NetScaler will no longer offer perpetual licensing. The focus will aim to provide high-performance application delivery, deep observability, and comprehensive application and API security features for modern applications built with microservices and deployed in hyperscale cloud environments. The subscription plans provide flexibility, predictability, and consistency, with the option to purchase software ADCs, hardware ADCs, or both.
